5Jeep Grand Cherokee Running Boards
By Ron From GA
I had a hard time finding any pictures of a 2011/12 Jeep Grand Cherokee with any running boards installed to get an idea of how they would look on my 2012 vehicle. The only pictures I did find were not focused on the running boards or were very indiscernible as they were distant shots of the vehicle. I finally tracked down a couple decent pictures on a Jeep dealer "for sale" ads and decided that the OEM running boards, called "side steps" looked the best and claimed to be "bolt on" meaning that I didn't have to drill or fabricate any brackets. I took a chance and bought the chrome running boards. To my surprise they arrived a few days earlier than forecasted and in perfect condition. No dents, scratches or mars. I was extremely happy to be off to a good start. A word of caution; when you open the shipping box to inspect your inventory, do not empty the bracket boxes as they are marked front, center, rear and you don't want to mix your brackets up. I was fortunat e to have seen the marked boxes and realized that I could have caused a problem if I had just opened the boxes and mixed the brackets up. Anyway, I followed the instructions and as advertised, everything bolted up perfectly and the running boards look wonderful on my JGC. The only problem I had was the kit contained replacement plastic pop rivets to replace the factory pop rivets you have to destroy to remove (holds the body side molding) per the instructions. The plastic pop rivets would not fit/work with my standard pop rivet gun. A plastic pop rivet gun is required and I could not buy one at any of the standard auto parts store, Wal-Mart or K-Mart. I found the pop rivet gun on line specifically for plastic pop rivets for $28.95 at Amazon. I decided not to purchase the gun at this time and substituted plastic "push ins" (about $3) to hold the molding up until I can get a plastic pop rivet gun. The running boards are strong and very functional. The chrome is brillian t and the black plastic step inserts are secure and very stylish.

5Nice Addition!
By Natalia
These running boards make an attractive addition to our Jeep Grand Cherokee. We took them to a local garage for installation and mentioned the marked bracket boxes (as noted by Ron from GA). The installers appreciated this information as a heads up. These boards are pricey, but really accent the JGC.

52012 GC - Side Bars
By Nick
(2012 GC) The product itself is great! Really adds a lot in my opinion.

If you are going to install them yourself, here are some words of caution:
No where in the "instructions" does it say what to do after removing the plastic rivets from the plastic molding. So, I thought it would just come off at that point. Nope! There are still about 8-10 locking tabs on each piece holding them in place. It is fairly difficult to detach the tabs without breaking them. I suggest using some sort of flat object (screwdriver with something to protect the paint) to pop them out. I wish I would have known that ahead of time as some of the tabs broke off for me. Even so, once you have the rivets in place it is still very secure.

YES, you do need a plastic rivet gun. I looked everywhere for one. Don't bother trying Sears or any other chain auto-parts stores. I bought one at the local body shop supply company for $28. He warned me that it was a "one-time" use tool a nd it lasted about halfway through the project. Don't buy the Marson lever style gun (Marson 48000 Klik-Lok Plastic Rivet Setter), I literally got 7 rivets set before it broke. Stick with one of the Y shaped ones you can find on Amazon, they actually come with Rivets too. Which, it turns out, you will need. The kit came with 12 plastic rivets, there are actully 16 rivets (and two bolts) that you have to remove to get the molding off of the truck. So, providing you do everyone perfect the first time you will still be four short.

Aside from messing with the molding and plastic rivets, these are pretty easy to install. Everything bolts up perfectly.

Good Luck
