Product Description

Westin Platinum Oval nerf bars part # 21-3515 is a 4" oval step bar kit with a tuff black powder coated finish that features 3 year warranty. The advantage to oval step bars is a 1" wider step pad that allows most users to get their entire foot on the pad for a more comfortable surer step. Plus the oval design has a great look that's just a little different than what everyone else has. Just like with other Westin step bars these kits line up with existing holes in the truck so no drilling is required and each kit is sold complete with both nerf bars, custom mounting brackets, everything needed for installation, and simple do it yourself instructions with good pictures.

4Looks good, seems durable, installed OK, but instructions lack some details
By Joyce W
These step bars were purchased through my Wife's account and I installed them in about 2 hours. These step bars would have received 5 stars if the instructions had been better done. The package arrived in good order and was packed very well preventing any damage. Everything was as ordered with no shortages. the mounting brackets were heavy made and the hardware of good quality. The bars look good and appear to be well made and durable as well. After installation they looked very good on my 2010 Ford F150 SuperCab and stand up well to my 260 lbs.

Installation went pretty good taking just under 2 hours from start to finish. My installation required no drilling. The only possible need would be to make a couple holes larger. Though mine were tight fits the special fasteners did just make it in. I am very good at this type of thing and I studied the instructions twice before starting the installation. The instructions leave some room for improvement. It t ook careful reading to follow some of the instructions which are nearly too small to read and hard to keep your place as you follow the steps due to the small font. A list of hardware with drawings to scale along with descriptions would have helped quite a bit. The photos were adequate, but a photo of how they look on the truck after installation would have been helpful in determining that I had received the right product. It appears that the instructions have been done generic for a standard truck, super cab and super crew and not having something that stated what I had received had me wondering at first if I received the correct product. A tape measure and a quick look under the truck in the driveway proved they were indeed correct, but better identification on the instructions would have been appreciated. As to what was missing in the instructions.
2. Remove the rear plastic retainer pin, not the front one.
4. The hole that the clip is inserted through is square and a file would work better than a drill, though most will work as they are. They are a very tight fit just rotate them around and work them into the square hole. Be careful and put the plastic retainer on the nut and bolt plate before you start the insertion to make sure you don't lose the plate inside the body area.
5. This is a tight fit, put just the nut on the nut and bolt plate as soon as you put the plate over it to secure the plate and use a small hammer or mallet to rotate the bracket in place. It takes some patience to put the bolt through the other hole in the bracket and body opening. On the two lower bracket bolts the smaller of the two washers goes to the top due to very little space being available.
7. Place the bracket using the back visible hole to locate the second round hole covered with tape and a third larger square hole which will be used to fish the bolt plate into place. This is the toughest job in the installation so be pati ent and careful using the plastic retainer once the bolt is through the hole. I don't think you can lose the plate, but it is a challenge to get it into place. I used some heavy duty duct tape to cover the larger square hole to make sure no water enters the body causing premature rusting.
10. The bars were not identified as to driver or passenger side. The footsteps are a little further from one end than the other and that end worked best to the front for me.
11. When you tighten the hardware tighten the large bar bolts last. Tighten the two smaller lower bolts on the front brackets first with the side bar very loose as one of these bolts is hidden by the bar and if you don't tighten it first you will have to loosen the bar to get to it.

5EASY TO INSTALL
By mwemdub
IT TOOK ME ABOUT AN HOUR ON THE FIRST SIDE AND ABOUT 20 MINUTES ON THE OTHER. THE INSTRUCTIONS COULD USE ALOT BETTER PICTURES FOR DEPICTION. PRODUCT ARRIVED VERY FAST, ONLY A FEW DAYS. THEY LOOK GREAT ON MY WHITE 2012 F150.

4terrible instructions but product is fine
By G. Donald Bain
The instructions were adequate, but printed in the tiniest size type I have ever seen. Presumably so they could get several language versions on each page. I needed a magnifying glass to refer to them (reading glasses were not enough), which was a pain when lying on the ground under the truck. It took a while, but I did eventually get everything mounted correctly and they have stood up to some back road abuse without any problems.
