5Looks great on my black Tundra
By Thrifty Buyer
These step bars were purchased as a replacement to the original Westin Step Bars that were installed when I bought the truck new. The original bars were badly rusted since they were chrome plated steel and I wanted a direct replacement but in stainless so they would last the remaining life of the truck.
The product is a high quality item and the hardware is premium hardware. The brackets are all powder coated. The instructions were specific to my application which is a first generation Toyota Tundra.
The only surprise was that the brackets and the attachment locations were slightly different than the original. I had to remove all the old mounting hardware and use the new hardware. The new hardware was a bit more complicated than the old and not quite as rigid. The reason for the change in mounting hardware was to make the step rails geometry more symmetrical. I liked to old geometry better than the new, but that is just a personal taste issue.
The new installation seems a little more flexible than the old. This may be due to the mounting hardware change or it could be a different stiffness of the rails due to a change from chrome plated steel to stainless steel.
Overall I am completely satisfied with the Westin Step Bars and would recommend them.

4Great Product
By Josie_Is_My_Dog
Install was very easy though the instructions could be better written. Would've been much quicker with two people but it's doable with one person. The bars look great! I didn't give 5 stars just because I haven't had them long enough to give that rating. So far so good.

It's very key to keep the front/back bracket bolts loose until you get the bars bolted on. You'll need the give on each side to line up the bracket holes that feed the bolt that goes into the bars. Also, pay close attention to the bolts that you receive. It would've been much simpler if the manufacturer used the same size bolts. Took me a while to sort out what bolts went where and I still got it mixed up once. Thankfully I didn't mess up any threads.

4Does the job
By KDH4
Does the job, and look super fantastic, spiff up the truck nicely. I had my sights set on some nerf bars from GoRhino, but they do not make a set for my truck (even though they said they did and sent me a set that was dented and way too long for my access cab toyota tundra. I am stuck with them it seems, and will try to sell them in the future.) Back to the Westin Step bar... Fit nice, delivery was great, they are packaged well from the factory and survived shipping well. Nice polished stainless. The mounting brackets are a little off on the install, perhaps that is to build in some kind of "springy support" to them? I am unsure, but they take a bit of hard core mounting to install. Took an hour each side,

FRONT SUPPORT Went like this...attached one bracket, loosely, 2nd bracket, loosely, attached step, firmly, tightened up brackets one and two, removed step, cranked down brackets one and two tight and reattached step.

REAR SUPPORT Went like this...a ttach bracket loosely, attach step firmly, tightened bracket, tightened step. COmpleted by torquing to spec those bolts you can still reach with a torque wrench.

Has a little "give" to them when I step up on them. I am 200 pounds. I do NOT recommend jumping up and down on them! I may look into getting some after market hanger style brackets to modify and mount near the center of the bars for some added strength. I have a few friends in the 250 pound range that might tweak them out of shape!

Update: ***Gave it a test with a 300 pound person and they seem to be good. Didn't bend out of shape, perhaps that is due to the built in flex in the mounting brackets.
